Shiko is a feisty and sometimes naughty tree sprite who came to Walter when he was a seedling. She has been with Walter through his growth, death, and continuing decay. On earth since trees first appeared, Shiko has lived all over the world before coming to Walter.
Walter is a wise and kind decaying water oak. Time has worn down his wide umbrella of leaves, branches, and limbs. Like a benevolent king, Walter watches over his backyard home. Over the years, he has curbed Shiko’s bad habits and has taught her to respect their wildlife friends.
Shiko and Walter live in an old southern backyard. Due to a subtropical climate, their home is lush and thus teaming with wildlife. Shiko and Walter have many backyard friends, including generations of birds, possums, frogs, squirrels, lizards, insects, and even wild crawfish.
The “Shiko & Walter’s Spring” sequel is complete and I am currently working on “Shiko & Walter’s Summer.”
I continue to enjoy sharing my first book and story- related children’s life science programs at book signings, festivals, schools, libraries and other local venues.
